In 2001 SKY Sotheby’s co-owners Brandyn Herbold and Chad Roffers were both top-producing agents for Michael Saunders & Co. They shared a passion for selling luxury real estate, consistently finishing in the top 10% in sales among all realtors in the Sarasota market. During their time with Michael Saunders & Co., they developed a keen methodology for selling and marketing unique properties. But most importantly, Chad and Brandyn gained invaluable experience working in the field as agents – experience that has shaped their current leadership style.
In 2002, Brandyn left Michael Saunders & Co. to start her own agency, Brandyn & Co. The company proceeded to close over $25 million in sales and new construction in its first year.
As they continued to thrive within the Sarasota real estate market, Brandyn and Chad started to sense, and ultimately identify, a void in luxury real estate marketplace. With his corporate background and high level of expertise in business strategy and development, Chad saw that the luxury homebuyer population was changing. And with that change, there came an expectation for a higher degree of professionalism and marketing expertise within the trade.
As Brandyn & Co. was thriving, Brandyn and Chad remained friends and colleagues. They soon became determined to fill the void in the luxury real estate market, and decided to combine collective energies to create a company that would address those needs.
After conducting a series of comprehensive customer focus groups, the result was an innovative, highly personalized approach to luxury real estate – SKY Real Estate. The firm was launched in 2004 with a dedicated staff of two associates, an office manager and a sleek, new look.
A trend started happening within the company – goals were set and habitually exceeded. Prospective listing clientele started to consistently choose SKY over some of the area’s top agencies. Clients were benefiting from SKY’s fresh approach and were experiencing something they never knew was possible – that buying and selling real estate can actually be fun.
It was time for SKY to go global. Enter Sotheby’s International Real Estate. In 2005, SKY earned the rights to do business as Sotheby’s International Real Estate, changing their name to SKY Sotheby’s International Realty.
Seemingly overnight, Brandyn and Chad guided SKY from being a successful local firm, predicated on a solid set of values, to a turbo-charged, globally minded powerhouse. Now, backed by a renowned brand with a storied tradition, SKY Sotheby’s enjoys access to worldwide marketing opportunities and membership to the most powerful brokerage network in the world with over 300 locations.
